The initial step of an ESA is to undertake a preliminary investigation involving: ¨ A site history review; ¨ A review of government records and title information; ¨ Investigation into local geology and hydrogeology; ¨ Soil sampling to AS/NZ4482:2005 and testing at a NATA accredited laboratory. ¨ Quality control sampling and testing; and ¨ Reporting and interpretation of analytical results, including comparisons to relevant health and environmental standards.
Many investigations end at this stage, but some reveal contamination that requires further investigation. |
Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), also known as contaminated site assessments, investigate the current environmental status of a property. ESAs are generally undertaken for the following reasons:
¨ Purchasing or selling land or buildings where an environmental assessment has been advised/requested; or ¨ Developing land for a more sensitive use (eg. Changing industrial to residential). |
ADTs Scientists and Project Managers have many years experience in contaminated land management and work closely with our clients to achieve beneficial outcomes. We can manage your site from Preliminary Investigation through to ongoing monitoring and remediation. |
Sampling and analysis of the deeper soil and groundwater beneath the site (involving drilling) is then undertaken to accurately map the extent of the contamination present. Sites may require ongoing monitoring or full remediation before they are suitable for their intended use. In some cases, instances of contamination may be required to be reported to local or government authorities. |
